Solly and the Elephant

A long time ago, many Jewish people had to leave the Land of Israel and make new lives in other places. One small group left by ship and encountered a raging storm. It is said that the ship ran aground in India, with only fourteen survivors. They called themselves Bene Israel, "the Children of Israel." As their community grew, they shared many stories and legends about their people. This is one of them.
